Obituary
Waterloo/Rushville– Kay R. Hackett, age 84, passed away unexpectedly, but surrounded by family, on Wednesday, May 22, 2024.
Friends may call Friday (May 31st) from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Perkins-Ames Funeral Home in Gorham.
A Funeral Service will be held Saturday (June 1st) at 11 a.m. at the Rushville Congregational Church.
Private Burial will be in Rose Ridge Cemetery, Naples, NY.

Kay was born Dec. 21, 1939 to the late Philander and Jane Shepard. She graduated from Canandaigua Academy, and then earned her LPN from Geneseo and her RN from Finger Lakes Community College. Kay had been a nurse at F.F. Thompson Nursing Home, Fairport Baptist Home and the Ontario County Nursing Home.
Kay married Ted Brian Hackett on May 6, 1965. They were married for 35 years. Ted passed away on July 22, 2000.
Kay enjoyed reading, sewing, gardening and playing games on her I-Pad. She loved spending time with her family, especially her 6 grandchildren.
Kay was a member of the Rushville Congregational Church, where she sang in the choir. She was also a member of the Rushville Eastern Star and the Canandaigua American Legion Auxilliary.
Kay is survived by 2 children, Karen Leach and Phil (Catherine) Hackett; 5 grandchildren, Jamie DeRosia, Viktoria (Jose Alicea) Leach, Megan Hackett, Zachary Hackett and Avery Hackett and grandson-in-law, Randy Angelo.
Kay was also survived by 8 great-grandchildren, Kailyn DeRosia, Cirstyn DeRosia, Kendra DeRosia, Isabella Angelo, Mayson Hackett, Jaxon Hackett, Oaklynn Champion and Asher Champion; 1 great-great-grandson, Grayson Cooper; 1 brother, Gerald (Kathleen) Shepard; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Kay was predeceased by her husband, Ted; son-in-law, Emory J. Leach; granddaughter, Stefanie Angelo; grandson-in-law, Chris DeRosia; and 2 brothers, Robert Shepard and Richard Shepard.
