Obituary

Mr. Jerry (Gerald) Hey of Gorham, New York, passed away at home on Friday, April 3, 2026, made whole by the Savior he loved.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 11 a.m. at the Perkins-Ames Funeral Home, Gorham, New York, immediately followed by interment at Shuman Cemetery and a Celebration of Life at Gorham Fire Department for refreshments.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ontario-Yates Hospice (part of UR Medicine Home Care) P.O. Box 270032, Rochester, NY 14627-0032.

A son of the late Wilbur Hey and Mildred Rogers Hey, Jerry was born April 8, 1942, in Canandaigua, New York, and lived his entire life in towns along the edges of Ontario and Yates Counties. He learned how to work at an early age on his family’s dairy farm, eventually carrying his tremendous work ethic with him to other employers including Hey’s Enterprises and the Town of Potter Highway Department.  You would often find him on a mower, at Gorham and Shuman Cemeteries or his own yard, as he valued a well-cut lawn and his shop in good order. Known for visiting others, Jerry maintained relationships with childhood and high school friends, neighbors and co-workers, and fellow church and extended family members. His greatest source of pride and accomplishment was his family who are grateful for his quiet, steady love and provision.

He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Lynette Barnes Hey; his children, Jennifer Nichols (Tom), Daniel Hey (Sandy), Sandra Teague, Roger Hey (Tess), and Ellen McMinn (James); his grandchildren, Graeme and Ty Nichols, Jasmine and Kyle Hey, Kacie Patterson (Travis) and Hayden and Gavin Teague, Kaylee and Devin Hey, and Maya and Gabriella McMinn; sisters Sharon Gage and Lois Barrow (Kagey); and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Jerry was predeceased by his parents and in-laws, Jack and Helen Barnes; brother, Harold Hey, and his wife, Susan; sister Diane Fox and her husband, David; brother-in-law Robert Gage and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Barbara Barnes.

Lynette, We are so sorry about Jerry's passing. He was such a good friend to us. He did so much, plowed and helped with the mowing. Great memories of Jerry and Dick sitting around the kitchen table talking about old times. They knew every car, truck and tractor in the area for the last 50 years or more. He will be missed. Lynette and family. So sorry to hear of Jerry’s passing. I always thought of him as the consummate gentleman. He was so good to my parents. Always willing to help them. And always so respectful. I think back to the fun family gatherings when we were all young. I remember one specific time at Uncle Ralph’s when I hit a foul ball that went through his windshield. I was so scared I was in trouble. It was along time ago but seems like yesterday.
