Obituary
Geneva-It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Edward B. Lambert on March 14, 2025, at the age of 93. Edward passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great grandfather, friend, and his departure leaves a profound sadness in our hearts.
A private graveside service for family will be held on March 22, 2025 at 11am at the Little Church Cemetery in Stanley.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Edward’s memory to the American Legion.
Edward was born on July 26, 1931, in Geneva, New York, and grew up in the beautiful Finger Lakes region. He graduated from Gorham High School and went on to enlist in the United States Air Force in July of 1949. Edward remained proud of his service to his country throughout his life. The values of duty and discipline he learned in the military stayed with him always. Edward married the love of his life, Eleanor Decker, in 1954 and they celebrated nearly 71 years of marriage together.
After many years of working at Penn Yan Express, Edward and Eleanor moved west to Colorado in 1984 to fulfill his lifelong dream of living in the mountains and working as a cowboy on a cattle ranch. In the heart of the Rocky Mountains, they embraced small-town life and became cherished members of the community as the owners of the La Garita Cash Store. Edward relished cowboy life and often participated in cattle drives, riding across the range on his beloved horse Apache. For him, those days under the blue Colorado sky were the ultimate adventure. His family takes comfort in knowing that he is surely reunited with Apache now, riding free together in the mountains.
In 2006, Edward and Eleanor returned home to New York to be closer to their ever-growing family. He treasured these later years, never missing a family gathering or milestone. Being surrounded by so many loved ones was the greatest blessing of his final years. He is survived by his devoted wife, Eleanor Mae (Decker) Lambert, and their three children: Michael (Minda) Lambert, Vicki (David) Pratt, and Joan Lambert, grandchildren Craig (Shannon), Cathee (Chris), Brian (Lucy), MJ, Lindsay (Frank), Caitlin (Jim), Chelsea, Zachary (Melody), Shane, Madison (Chris). He also leaves behind 14 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Helen (the late Leonard) Lambert. and many nieces and nephews, all of whom brought immense joy to his life.
Edward was predeceased by his parents Leonard and Mamie Lambert, siblings Donald (Elizabeth) Lambert, Clara (Robert) Sanderson, Mildred (George) Woodley, Leola (Earl) Melious, and Leonard Lambert.
Edward’s family would like to thank his devoted care-giver Ozzy, the staff at Horizons, and Living Center South, and Geneva General Hospital for the wonderful care they provided to him. Edward will be remembered for his strength, stoicism, love of the outdoors, and strong work ethic. Everything in Edward’s life had its place; he was always proud and dapper in appearance, hardly ever without his cowboy hat. He also had a playful spirit—a bit of a trickster-who never met a sweet he didn’t like. Above all, Edward cherished his wife and family with all his heart. His legacy of hard work, love, and adventure will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, and he will be dearly missed.
Happy trails to you, until we meet again.

Dear Ella, I just heard of Ed's passing and I want to tell you how shocked and sorry I am. When we were neighbors up in Branchport and I would come down the hill and drive by your house, I would enjoy so much seeing you both in your yard. You working in your flowers and Ed mowing the lawn. It was always such a pleasure to visit with you both. Please know Ella that you and your family will be in my prayers. RIP Ed
