Don was the former Industrial Arts and Technology Chairman at Churchville-Chili Central School where he also headed up the Driver Education program. He was a lifelong educator and continued to be a mentor of fishing and hunting to many young adults during his retirement. He was happiest when he was on or near Canandaigua Lake hunting and fishing and was known as a trout fishing legend in the Vine Valley area. His smoked venison jerky, sausage, homemade pickles, sauerkraut, garlic and fish recipes will be missed by many.
Don is survived by his wife of 46 years, Susanne C. Beusman; three daughters, Sue (Kenn) Hamilton, Kim (Scott) Kopacek and Jennie (Don) Harris; two step-sons, Scott (Constance) Coots and Andrew (Debra) Coots; 10 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; sister, Ivy Patricia McDonough; brother-in-law, Charles A. We met Don at the Conservation Club years ago and became good friends. Don was always the gentleman and was always helping the youth out in any way he could.

Daughter Sue and all the family, We are so sorry for your loss. One of my best memories at CCHS was when Larry Huntoon and I tried to help your Dad make a smoker out of a 55 gallon steel drum. We weren’t too good with Hammer and Punch yet to make the holes needed and your Dad in his own special way let us know that, we laughed out loud the rest of the time! Our thoughts and prayers are with you all!

So sorry to hear about the loss of Don. He just sent me some photos of trout he caught with his young friend. Don was a great neighbor. His knowledge about fishing Canandaigua was unparalleled. He always was willing to help with any project. He lived his life in the moment in a manner that we can all aspire. I will always miss him. My sincere condolences to Sue and his entire extended family. He was one of a kind.

Mr Beusman was a great teacher. I learned so many practical lessons from him. I remember his Driver Ed classes with his thermos of coffee and the plastic coffee cup on the dashboard. “ start and stop under control and don’t spill my coffee!” I imparted that technique on my teenagers learning to drive, don’t spill the cup on the dashboard!

Dear Sue, Suzy, Kim, Jenny, Scott and Andy,
We have lost an icon. Don survived teaching me how to drive so I thought he would live forever! Now there is one more angel to watch over all of God's creation. When I think of Don I have only good memories and I cherish his warm hugs.
May your memories give you comfort at this time.
Love, Cindy Curran Hinman

Dear Sue; I was so sorry to read of your loss. I certainly remember all our wonderful times on Fort Myers Beach (oh! those sunset get-togethers). I certainly remember you and Don making us feel so welcome at your home on our way home one year. Take care and know you are not alone - a lot of people love you.

Sue and family,
So very sorry to hear. My wife Susan and I were so pleased to meet you and Don while residents of Indian Village.
Loved when you would stop while in your golf cart and we would laugh and enjoy some stories and wisdom from Don and you. The pickles and garlic were a treat! Don’s shared knowledge of the Valley, the lake and fishing was appreciated. He was a very special person.
Condolences to you and your family.

Don was our (Anne and Gary) first and closest friend after we married and moved to Churchville in 1958. For many years Don and I hunted in Bliss NY. —- got our first deer with bows and eventually our kids and male friends to “the tent camp. So many years, so many memories. I loved Don like a brother. Time and distance separated us but our relationship held fast. I will miss you old friend. Love Gary

Don was a close friend of my grandpa, that's how I got to know him. I'm so fortunate to have gotten to meet him and go fishing with him. He showed me the secrets of fishing with copper line, the best spots for lake trout, and we exchanged many stories. I am very sorry for your loss, Don was a great person and I miss those visits together at the lake.

So sorry for your loss, thoughts of Mr Beusman are of the most patient man possible as a driver education instructor. One of the students in my car was attempting a K-turn on a hill and got us stuck in a snow bank, Mr. Beusman did not even raise a fuss, just got out, got the shovel out of the trunk & handed it to the student & said "you got us in, you get us out, that's what you would have to do if you were alone in your own car." Luckily, we weren't in very deep & it only took a few minutes of Mr Beusman's skill of rocking us out. My thoughts & prayers to the family, May this great man fly high with the eagles!

Mr. B, as we knew him as students at Churchville-Chili High School, was a giant in many of our lives. He was the consummate educator, not just because of his ability to reach his students however they learned best, but also because he genuinely got a kick out of teaching and deeply cared for us as people. Plus, he sure did make us laugh at times too!
I came to know Mr. B as one of his Drivers’ Ed students. This led me to be twice blessed as I came to know Mr. B, who I began to call Don when I became a Junior High teacher at Churchville-Chili. Though we didn't teach the same subjects nor were we teaching in the same building, we often found ourselves at gatherings involving teachers from across the district where we conversed on a multitude of educational topics and got to know each other as peers. Mr. B., Don leaves a lasting legacy of success for so many. How Don marked his time on earth lives on forever in the lives he touched in so many ways.

I graduated from CCCS in 1966. I took three years of engineering drawing in every semester. Don was my teacher in many of my classes. I LOVED his teaching style, going through ALL the mechanical drawing classes CCCS offered. I followed in his footsteps having 39 years teaching eighth grade American History in Penfield Central School. My students used to ask, “Mr. Benoit! Where did you learn to draw so well?” I told them. My condolences and a tip on my hat to a fine teacher/friend!

Mr. Buesman was a very favorite teacher of mine. Being the first girl at CCCS to take any of his Industrial Arts classes (mechanical drawing and architecture) he treated me just like the boys respectfully. It was Mr. Buesman who enabled me to get my first job out of high school a job with a Civil Engineering firm. Later as an Engineering Aide with the State of N.Y. D.O.T. I've thought of you often...until we meet again. Rest in Peace..

To Mr. B's Family,
I was a student in the class of 1972. Mr. B started me on the engineering path in drafting class. I have been trying to find him for some time to tell him the difference he made in my life and career. Finding this obituary now I wanted his family to know.
I had an amazing career designing manufacturing processes for F16 guidance systems, nuclear submarines, various missile components and even coins for the U.S. Mint. He would not be surprised that it is my fault that George Washington is missing an ear on a bunch of 1986 quarters.
A remarkable man that played an important role in my early life!
Sincere condolences to his family.
