Obituary

Penn Yan- David R. Jones, age 63, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, August 26, 2025 at F.F. Thompson Hospital.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, September 2, at 12 noon at Lakeview Cemetery in Penn Yan. A gathering for friends and family will be held at Wellspring Fellowship, 465 North Main St., Penn Yan following the graveside service.

David was born on September 22, 1961, a son of the late Ronald G. and Donna M. Leach Jones. He was an avid outdoorsman, he had a great passion for hunting, fishing, and trapping. David has raised Tumbler and Homing Pigeons since he was 7 years old; regionally he was considered a master breeder. He was a member of the Quad Club within the Central NY Racing Combine. David has passed this knowledge and passion on to his nephew, Noah.

David has worked as a groundskeeper for the last 15 years at Lakeside Country Club in Penn Yan, and for the Bath Country Club.

David is survived by his siblings, Tim (Debbie McNay) Jones of Virginia, Nancy (Dr. Neil) Pritchard of Stirling, Ontario, Canada, Daniel (Catherine) Jones of Georgia, Donald (Gail) Jones of Penn Yan and Tammy (Steven) Hullings of Penn Yan; goddaughter, Debra Harris; his dogs, Sirius Black and Misty Rose; as well as several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, a nephew, Andrew Hullings, and his grandmother Theresa Smith, who he took care of for many years.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Humane Society of Yates County, P.O. Box 12, Penn Yan, NY 14527 or to a cancer research organization of donor’s choice.
