Jimmy was born on May 3, 1937, a son of the late John A. and Marjorie Keith Gage. Jimmy was a loving husband, father and pop, first and foremost. A dedicated family man who never missed an opportunity to show up for his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Our beloved Pop attended all events of grandchildren, always showing support and being proud of each and every one of them.  He was the man who carried an inches thick picture wallet with him for years to show off his growing family.  He was an enthusiast of many things. He loved sports, especially basketball, where he enjoyed attending Syracuse basketball games,  and watching the stock car races at the Land of Legends.  He loved building things, his home and his land. He was a book lover of facts and historical events with pictures. Pop enjoyed having friends, meeting people and opportunities to be social.  In later years he enjoyed driving his car the “It” down to the pier on many occasions ,and was proud of building the “It” with help from family. He owned and operated Bruce Gage and Son Painting for nearly 55 years. Jimmy lived his life by working hard, valuing all that he had, and protecting and caring for all that he valued.

Jimmy is survived by his wife of 65 years, Barbara Burger Gage; four children, Kim (David) Anderson, Kyle (Margaret) Gage, Kelli Gage and Kandi Gage; eleven grandchildren, Rachael (Jay) Dillon, Matthew (Kristin) Anderson, Rebecca Anderson, Karissa (Cody) Maines, Elise (Matt) Tarlach, Hannah (Stefan) DePierro, Jaymee Gage Flook, Desirae (Matthew) Robarge, Jacob Gage Flook, Steven (Brandi) Drum and Keith (Shayla McClung) Drum; 15 great-grandchildren; a special nephew, Tim (Keri) Lafler; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jimmy was predeceased by his parents; three siblings, Elaine (Frank) Indivino, John Robert Gage and Barbara Janet DeVoll; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Bernice and Nick Delforte; as well as several nieces and nephews.

I offer my sincerest condolences to Jim's family, hearing of his passing. Doesn't seem possible that so many years have passed since I first met Jim as a painter myself, then as an inspector when he was building houses. He always was good and offered advice when I first began painting. I appreciated his willingness to work out problems even when he disagreed with me. All in all.....Jim was a good man. RIP Jim.

Never personally met the gentleman, but the obituary has the read of a great man raising and caring for a wonderful family. You just don't see 65 year marriages anymore, I true testament to caring and loving relationships.

I am so sad to hear the passing of Bruce. I often think about him but have lost touch in the last several years. I am also a painting contractor & we often would share coffee at the paint counter of fill in the blank paint store & discuss paint, politics, family & life in general. He was a good man with a lot of knowledge, always willing to share what he could. The world has lost a great guy that I am extremely lucky to have known & been able to call a friend. I will miss him but will never forget him! Condolences to the family. Remember the good times.

Hi Kyle and Barb - We are so sorry to hear about Jim's passing. We did not hear about it until just the other day and are so sorry to have missed the service. I still think about him from time to time and it was a pleasure to work with him and you also Kyle. I'm sure you are a great teacher and are very happy and fulfilled with it. I don't think you knew but I met Jim back in 1971 when I first started framing houses with my old bosses the Masci Bros at Greenbrier and Sweetbrier in Farmington. You may not have been born yet. I think I only met you once, Barb, but feel as though I know you some just from talking on the phone. My deepest condolences and best wishes for you and all the family. Jim was a great and memorable person and we all will miss him. Randy and Megan Jones
