Obituary

April 1, 2025 | Age 84

Bonnie Stetzel Bergstresser passed away peacefully on April 1, 2025, at the age of 84. She was predeceased by her first husband, Arthur “Buddy” Phillips; her son, Randy Phillips; her parents, William and Susan Stetzel; and her sister, Bette Morrison.

Bonnie is survived by her husband, James Bergstresser; her son, Terry Phillips; her stepdaughter, Christa (Michael) Busby; her stepson, Eric (Dawn) Bergstresser; eight grandchildren, Mark, Eric, Meaghan, and Matthew Phillips, Maryalice and Ella Busby, and Owen and Jack Bergstresser; as well as eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, John (Peggy) Stetzel; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Bonnie worked as a nurse at Geneva General Hospital, where she spent her entire nursing career. Starting as a floor nurse, she went on to work as a supervisor, before moving to the emergency department and then the dialysis unit. During her time at the dialysis unit, she also attended Nazareth College, where she earned her BSN.  After her retirement, she assisted administering vaccines at Finger Lakes Medical Associates in Geneva.

A lifetime member of the Stanley Fire Department Auxiliary, Bonnie was also active in various committees at Sugar Creek Estates in Bradenton, FL, where she and Jim spent the winter months. While in NY during the summer months, in addition to frequenting the Gorham Diner or Hall Diner for breakfast, she often enjoyed an ice cream cone at one of the local ice cream stands.  In her free time, she enjoyed crafts, sewing, painting and playing cards with friends.  

Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Friday, April 11, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Perkins-Ames Funeral Home, 2583 E. Main Street, Gorham, with a memorial service to follow at 6:00 PM.
