Obituary

Penn Yan/Potter- Barbara Ann Nielsen, age 77, passed away on Thursday May 22, 2025 at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital.

Friends may call on Thursday, May 29, from 1-3 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Perkins-Ames Funeral Home in Gorham. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at 10 a.m. at St. Michael’s Church in Penn Yan.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Barb’s name can be made to the Benton Fire Department, 932 State Route 14A, Penn Yan, NY 14527 or to the Humane Society of Yates County, P.O. Box 12, Penn Yan, NY 14527.

Barb was born on December 9, 1947, the daughter of the late John and Angela Francek Krygoski. She was employed many years in the cafeteria at Marcus-Whitman High School. Barb was a devote Catholic and member of St. Michaels Church in Penn Yan. She enjoyed gardening, canning, flowers and travelling; her favorite place to visit was Ocean City, Maryland. Barb was a fantastic cook. She was a member of the Benton Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary,  Yates Antique Tractor & Engine Society and the NYS Pageant of Steam. Barb was a very generous person, she would help anyone in need.

Barb is survived by her husband, Jim Nielsen; son, David (Christine) Nielsen; grandchildren, Dawsen, Anthony (Taylor) and Matthew; great-grandchildren, Everett and Piersen.

Barb was predeceased by her parents and a brother, Michael Krygoski.
