Ellen Josephine Thompson

Potter- Ellen Josephine Thompson, age 103, passed away peacefully at her son’s home on Monday, April 21 2025.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 29 at 11 a.m. at the Perkins-Ames Funeral Home, 2583 East Main St., Gorham, NY. Burial will be in Rushville Cemetery.

Josephine was born on February 2, 1922, a daughter of the late Joseph and Ellen Jane McCormick Kennedy. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and participated with the AWANA Club. Josephine was treasurer for the church and the book keeper for the Town of Potter and for the family farm. She was always there to help on the farm, milking cows or doing whatever needed to be done. Josephine was an avid gardener, tilling her own garden into her 90’s. She loved flowers and watching the birds.

Josephine is survived by her sons, Lewis Thompson and Roger (Pauline) Thompson; 7 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 40 great-great-grandchildren; brother, David (Ruth) Kennedy; sister-in-law, Betty Kennedy; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Josephine was predeceased by her parents; husband, Bernard Lewis Thompson; daughter, Elaine (Gerald) Adam; daughters-in-law, Phyllis Thompson and Connie Thompson; grandson, James Thompson; great-grandson, Benjamin Thompson; siblings, Thelma Peek, Grace Coombes, Laurence Kennedy, Joe Kennedy and Phyllis Peek.
