LaVerna Ransom Roe

LaVerna Ransom Roe went home to be with the Lord on Thursday December 26, 2024. 

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, January 7^th  from 5-8pm and on Wednesday, January 8^{th from}  10-11:30 am with a celebration of life following at the Perkins -Ames Funeral Home in Gorham NY.  There will be a private burial at the convenience of the family in the Bellona Cemetery.

LaVerna was born on November 9, 1932 at home in Pulteney NY to Judson J. and Clara Elizabeth (Kennedy) Ransom.  LaVerna Graduated from Geneva High School in 1950. After graduation she worked as a legal secretary in Penn Yan, Geneva, Seneca Falls and Canandaigua  for multiple judges and lawyers until her retirement. LaVerna Married the love of her life Donald F. Roe on February 14, 1954.  They celebrated 55 years of wedded bliss before Donalds passing.  LaVerna was an active member of the Gu-Ya-No-Ga chapter of  D.A.R. for many years, serving as regent officer from 2001-2004.  She was also an active member of Eastern Stars for many years. LaVerna was a member of the Bellona Fire Dept Auxiliary and the Bellona Presbyterian church.  LaVerna was a very independent woman throughout her life, traveling to Washington DC for D.A.R., Scotland for her ancestry research and traveling all over the country with her husband Donald.  Even after her husbands death, LaVerna continued to travel to Florida for several winters and stayed very active. 

LaVerna is survived by her daughters Sandra (Van) Strong of Penn Yan, Ann (Larry) Fancher of Geneva, and Wanda Inwood of Penn Yan. Grandchildren Leslie (Jeff) Jorritsma of Pulteney NY, Chuck (Jeannie) Lafferty of Henderson TX, David (Jen) Clancey of Rock Stream NY, Kristie Clancey of Buffalo NY, Staci (Joe) Whitney of Murfreesboro TN, Andrea (Matt) Karczewski of Colorado Springs CO, Elizabeth Ritzler (Aca Creedon) of Penn Yan NY, Stephen (Elizabeth) Ritzler of Farmington NY, Step grandchildren Jodi (Ian) McGucken of Georgetown ON, CA, Christy (Scott) Spicer of Pickering ON, CA, Tammi (Andy) Swayer of Uxbridge ON, CA, Heather (Joe) Gigliotti of Geneva NY, Lyle (Meg Jolly) Fancher of Waterloo  NY. Great Grandchildren Courtney (Andrew) Owens of Wheeler NY, Cassandra (Nate) Underhill of Prattsburgh NY, Candice (Ryan) Fitzpatrick of Keuka Park NY, Liliana Jorritsma of Canisteo NY, Breanna Jorritsma of Pulteney NY, Caroline and Dylan Whitney of Murfreesboro TN, Aubrey Clancey of Rock Stream NY, Oliver and Thea Karczewski of Colorado Springs CO, Lucas Roe of Nunda NY, Lewis Ritzler of Farmington NY.  Five Great Great Grandchildren, sister-in-law Pat Ransom, cousins and several nieces and nephews.  LaVerna leaves behind life long friends Millie Albertson and Clifford and Marian Nielson. 

LaVerna was predeceased by her parents, her husband Donald in 2009, her son Larry Roe, grandson Vincent Roe, sister Ruth (Ransom) Minns, brother in law Wallace Minns, brother Judson Ransom, sons-in-law Philip Ritzler and Robin Inwood.
