Obituary
Stanley- Von E. Strahan, age 69 entered into rest on Sunday, September 8, 2024 where he was greeted by many of his dogs at the end of the Rainbow Bridge.
A celebration of Von’s life will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2024 from 2 p.m. until at his home, “The Flatiron” 3213 County Road 18, Stanley, NY 14561. Inclement weather location will be the Gorham Fire Hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the NYS Trappers Association, 237 Fonda Rd, Waterford, NY 12188.
Von was born on September 3, 1955 in Canandaigua, New York. He was a unique and multifaceted man. Von played Rugby for the Finger Lakes Vikings for over 30 years, he was a long distance runner who still holds many records at Marcus Whitman High School and once finished 43rd in the Boston Marathon. He was a Wildlife Specialist for the USDA. Von was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed archery, was a Master Trapper and Houndsman and raised Old English Game Chickens. He loved animals, his dogs where his best friends. Von was a self-proclaimed “Party Master” and “Ring Leader”. He was always busy and touched many lives around the world.
Von is survived by his life partner of 20 plus years, Michelle Kinney; children, Jacy (Mikaela) Strahan, Christa Strahan and their mother, Rita Venuti; step-children, Laura (Julia House) Kinney and Eddie (Tanya) Kinney; granddaughter and sunshine of his life, Samira Strahan-Cure; siblings, Tammy (David) Bleier, Tracy (Doug Swarthout) Henderson, Trudy Jo Strahan and Charles Bergman; special friends, Jim and Joanne Ninestine as well as many nieces nephews and cousins and so many friends, too many to mention.
Von was predeceased by his parents, Earl Strahan, Ruth Mason Bergman and Charles and Lois Bergman.

One goes thru life with very few “true friends” and even rarer to find a unique and one of a kind friend. You didn’t have to know Von but for a very short period of time to realize he was one of a kind “all on the plus side”. Von was great! We always enjoyed seeing each other which was not often enough. I remember when Von would bring his favorite rooster into Slattary’s Gas Light Cafe and show me. He always offered me capes and hackle feathers for my fly tying efforts. I loved his laugh and his energy. I know he will be missed by many including me.
