Obituary
Dundee- Herbert “Herb” “Herbie” Leon Tennies, age 89, died in the hope of resurrection to eternal life on April 18, 2023.
Friends may call on Friday, April 28 from 5 – 8 p.m. at the Bellona Memorial Presbyterian Church in Bellona (after which the casket will be sealed) and again on Saturday, April 29 from 10 – 11 a.m. at the Seneca No. 9 Presbyterian Church in Stanley where a Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Burial will be held immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Seneca No. 9 Presbyterian Church, 4400 Number 9 Rd., Stanley, NY 14561, or to Bellona Memorial Presbyterian Church, 93 Pre-Emption Rd., Bellona, NY 14415, or to Keuka Comfort Care Home, P.O. Box 107, Penn Yan, NY 14527.
Herb was a Presbyterian Minister who served in churches in Western Pennsylvania: Beechwoods and Sugar Hill; in Western New York: Crittenden and Tonawanda Indian; in the Finger Lakes: Bellona Memorial and Seneca Number 9 for 23 years; and in Northern New York: Heuvelton. He and Mary came to Dundee for retirement.
His parents were Raymond and Frances Fiske Tennies. He grew up in a household of five boys. Now their earthly sojourns are over: Paul, George, Arthur, Herbert and Francis. He and his wife, Mary Letitia Swain, were high school classmates, who were married Sept. 1, 1956. He then entered Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. Herb and Mary were married for 63 years prior to her death on Feb. 12, 2020. Together they raised four children.
Herb is survived by his children, Mark (Sherry) Tennies, Heather (Steven) Montfort, Barbara (Christopher) Aumick, and Amber Tennies (Brian DeFilippo), his grandchildren Brittney, Morgan, and Shawn Tennies, Caroline Montfort (fiancé Michael Maraghi), Deziree and Dustin White, Cori Aumick, Michael and Dominic Bruno, Angela (Jeff) Kearns, and Cash Harris, his great-grandchildren Remi and Meziah Bates, Isabella and Giovanni Bruno, and Matthew Kearns, as well as bothers-in-law, David and James Swain.
Herb was predeceased by his wife, Mary, his parents, grandson, Matthew Bruno, great-grandson, Lotus L. Sikes and sisters-in-law, Helen, Catherine and Barb.
